Paying rent is not the only financial obstacle to securing permanent housing. The cost of furnishings can cripple a family on the brink of homelessness and threaten its ability to remain self-sufficient.

For victims of natural disasters or homelessness, the ability to fill a home with the basic necessities of living is as important, and difficult, as finding a home itself.

But with your support, we can give them what they need to turn an empty house into a home.

With our new 20,000 square foot warehouse, the CARITAS Furniture Bank is the only furniture bank in central Virginia and has already provided almost $325,000 worth of furniture and household goods to more than 625 households. This year alone, it has kept 289,000 pounds of furnishings out of the landfill and recycled it back into the community, benefiting qualified individuals and families in need of our help.

Your tax-deductible donations of gently used furniture, kitchenware, linens, and basic household items are an easy, green, and cost-free way to help hundreds of your neighbors regain their lives and acquire the basics of a functioning home.

CARITAS Furniture Bank, the only furniture bank in the state of Virginia, embodies the principle of reduce, reuse and recycle. Each time a piece of furniture or home furnishing is donated, the time, materials and energy needed to make such an item has been reduced. It is then reused and eventually will be recycled. CARITAS Furniture Bank is certified by the state of Virginia to treat mattresses to be reused.

Annually we recycle approximately 150 tons of household essentials.
