Furniture

How It Works

The Furniture Bank works in close partnership with over 30 local non-profit and social service agencies to provide basic household items to qualified individuals and families.

These agencies prequalify and refer individuals and families in need of basic household items to the CARITAS Furniture Bank. Clients include women escaping domestic violence, individuals and families who have been homeless, elderly persons on limited incomes, people with mental and physical disabilities, refugee families from all over the world, youth and adults recovering from substance abuse, victims of natural disasters, and the working poor.

Our Transitional Employees from The Healing Place help shop, load and deliver the furniture, providing much of the heavy lifting critical to the success of our program.

Through our "Home Starter" program, clients are able to acquire furniture, bedding, and household items from our warehouse by being awarded a certain number of units to "spend", based on a variety of factors.

Donations of furniture are acquired in a number of ways- through "PODS", "Smart Boxes" and AAAA Storage Units located throughout the city, through furniture drives spearheaded by individuals, groups, corporations, or retail supporters, or through individual drop-offs at our warehouse located at 1125 E. Commerce Rd, Richmond VA 23224. (link to google map)

Items donated to the CARITAS Furniture Bank will be given to clients and used to further the mission of CARITAS.
