September 2011
The United Way kicked off its annual community-wide campaign this month:
"Neighboring corporations came together this September in a collaborative volunteer project at the CARITAS Furniture Bank for United Way’s Week of Action. Throughout the morning, the group of about 50 volunteers organized and shelved household donations, shopped with clients, cleaned and painted old furniture items, and built three new dressers, truly touching several parts of the Furniture Bank’s mission to wholly serve its clients’ needs and be good stewards of our environment’s resources. Among the crowd were Employee Campaign Managers, those who head up fundraising efforts at their companies for United Way, and a team from the campaign’s sponsor, Dominion. We are grateful for the support of local community leaders and look forward to future partnerships.
This campaign provides a vital role in fundraising and distribution of charitable gifts to agencies such as CARITAS, and helps CARITAS provide shelter and case management to those who find themselves in a housing crisis. When you are asked to give or make a pledge, please think of the community and what your contribution can do. Remember that your pledge can be designated to a specific agency such as CARITAS or it can remain undesignated and go into the Community Care Fund.
The codes to designate to CARITAS are:
2504 – United Way Campaigns
68922 – Combined Federal Campaign (CFC)
7311 – Local Government & Schools Campaign (LGS)
3402 – Commonwealth of Virginia Campaign (CVC)
